Enumeration of Elixirs

"Resources, in the therapeutic sense, are practices we do, people we reach out to, beliefs we cultivate, that help us manage stressful events.

“Elixirs, in the alchemical sense, are substances with the magical power to transform, or extend life. To cure the problem at hand.

“This is Everyday Alchemy, so of course we’re going to talk about elixirs, instead of resources. But know that in this context, they’re one in the same.”

This Ever Evolving List of Elixirs helps bring me back into my window of wellbeing, and I thought I’d give it a space of its own to expand, as I do. You can read more about its origin here.

I hope you find it supportive.

Astrology

Scheduling Fate with counseling astrologer Jamie Magee (Western astrology)

Why I adore: Jamie makes it easy to learn and understand how to work with the energy of the stars, based on your sign. I particularly love her written horoscopes and video broadcasts. I’ve also done several one-on-one readings with her, that were incredibly helpful at the time.

Astrology reports by Rob Brezsny, posted every Wednesday in Good Times (Western astrology)

Why I adore: Rob often puts his horoscopes in the context of myth or mythology or not-so-random personal story. You can feel the heart and soul he pours into these each week.

Sacred Flame Vedic Astrology with Chloe Obelar (Vedic astrology)

Why I adore: Chloe posts almost daily energy forecasts with insights into what activities or mindsets are best supported by the cosmos.

Dreams and depth psychology

This Jungian Life with Deborah Stewart, Lisa Marchiano, and Joseph Lee

Why I adore: These three friends and Jungian analysts are wicked smart and so endearing. Their podcast is a weekly must for me, where they discuss life through a Jungian lens, and often end by analyzing a listener’s dream. While long, they sparse out key themes into shorter, digestible posts if you’re looking for just a taste. Dream School has been a dream, as has their book Dream Wise.

Meditation

Centering prayer

Why I adore: This practice feels like silent prayer, meditation, 30-minutes to deepen our relationship with the divine through quiet receptivity in the company of others looking to do the same. I found an in-person group of the loveliest locals that gather every Tuesday eve. You can certainly find groups that meet online, but the togetherness in flesh is really something special if you come across one in your town.

Reading

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself

Why I adore: I hit a point in life where I didn’t enjoy being with myself and I was ready to do something about it. This book helped me understand my mind, and also shared practices to start shifting the unhealthy habits I’d fallen into.

The Meaning of Mary Magdalene

Why I adore: I read this book twice, and I’ll read it again. Through this particular exploration of Mary Magdalene, I was enraptured by new ideas about what it means to be feminine, and love, and holy.

The Body Keeps the Score

Why I adore: This book began to widen my still-narrow-understanding of trauma, and opened me to the innumerably creative, powerful, somatic paths to healing.

Tantra

All things Layla Martin

Why I adore: She’s smart, humble, and human. Funny and fantastical. And her offerings have helped me deeply, safely, shamelessly, unapologetically explore my femininity—which has been dormant for quite some time—with a ton of curiosity and grace. I stumbled upon Layla’s This Tantric Life podcast and later bought her Obliss program, but quickly ditched that for the full-on Vita experience.

Yoga

Kundalini Yoga with Yogigems

Why I adore: Yogigems is a beautiful soul with a British accent and a tuxedo cat, who offers 20-ish-minute virtual kundalini yoga sessions with movements designed to address different energies. I’ll often take a work break with Yogigems to elevate my energy, align the spine, or open my third eye.

Yoga Nidra with Ally Boothroyd

Why I adore: I stumbled across Ally when looking for guided yoga nidra recordings and stayed for her soothing voice talking through body scans while nature sounds softly surround. This is my go-to when I desire a bit of support getting into a state of deep relaxation, often before bed.
